Chelsea Football Club are set to miss out on a talented transfer target, if we trust the latest media claim from a typically decent source. One major outlet, Sky Sports, has rubbished a report that a Manchester United star is ready to leave Old Trafford.
The Blues and the Red Devils have done high profile business in recent years, Mason Mount being the standout transaction. Yet another gifted midfielder could be on his way to west London if we trust a current story. Though counter-claims exist, as I say.
We also ask if the Stamford Bridge outfit actually need another player in this specific position? Enzo Maresca already has a plethora of options to choose from in the midfield department. And those existing Blues are particularly skilled as well as accomplished. Is a deal ultimately likely in this instance? And why has Sky put distance between a move from Manchester to the English capital? Let's get to it.
Chelsea linked with Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo
If you surveyed a section of Blues fans regarding how highly they rate Mainoo, many would assert that he's exceptional I'm sure. If you asked the group if they'd like the 19-year-old to join Chels, fewer but still a large proportion would say yes.
Though with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia creating something special at the Bridge, I don't know if Mainoo is required. That doesn't diminish from the England international's quality, however.
Suggestions doing the rounds are that Chelsea plot a swoop for the Red Devil this month. Although a denial has arisen. Journalist Melissa Reddy said United 'very much' see Mainoo as a solid part of 'their future'.
"Kobbie Mainoo has no concerns over his Manchester United future, Sky Sports News understands, amid reports the club may need to cash in on academy players to comply with financial rules."
In addition to that statement, CFC expert Simon Phillips has weighed in on the matter. He asserts that Mainoo would 'need convincing in order to switch to London'.
