Having being dethroned, a big summer awaits for Chelsea. The Blues were six-in-a-row WSL champions, but have lost their crown, ultimately finishing third, six points behind champions Manchester City. This means Sonia Bompastor's team must prepare for a Champions League qualifier in August, before the new league season starts in September, which is not ideal.
However, could they start the summer by signing the champions' best player? Well, striker Khadija Shaw is currently set to be out of contract at Manchester City, yet to agree a new one, and it is being widely reported that Chelsea is her most-likely destination. This would represent a major coup, especially with the Blues in need of attacking reinforcements, with Sam Kerr leaving the club.
So, why would Shaw be such a game-changing edition? Well, her tally of 21 WSL goals earned her a third golden boot, the first player to achieve this, also the first player in history to surpass 21 goals in a single WSL season on three seperate occasions.
Players to score 20+ goals in a WSL season

|---|---|---|---|

There is no doubt that Shaw is one of the best strikers in the world, having scored 73 WSL goals across the last four seasons, by far the most of any player. She would obviously be an enormous loss for Man City, who would not have been crowned champions without her, so taking a player from a direct rival would be an added bonus for Chelsea.
The Jamaica ended the Blues' FA Cup hopes earlier this month. Chelsea were 2-0 up against Man City at Stamford Bridge, only for Mary Fowler to halve the deficit four minutes from time, before Shaw equalised in injury time. She then fired home the winner shortly before half time of extra time to complete the most improbable of comeback. Shaw also found the target when Bompastor's side were humiliatingly demolished 5-1 at the Etihad back in February.
Thus, singing her would prevent the Jamaican from scoring against Chelsea first and foremost, but the 29 year old would still score goals by the bucket load were she to swap sky blue for a darker shade. As mentioned, club legend Kerr is on her way out of West London this summer, but they do still boast Lauren James, Alyssa Thompson, Mayra RamÃrez, Aggie Beever-Jones and Sandy Baltimore, who aren't bad options to have.
Nevertheless, after Catarina Macario was sold to San Diego Wave for a reported fee of $300,000 in March, there is still room for another attacker or two. Even though Manchester City have the trophy everyone in England is chasing, Chelsea might just land the striker everyone would be lucky to have.
