Christopher Nkunku is one of the players who has been expected to leave Chelsea for months. But while the Blues have been able to engineer multiple departures so far in this window, they have not been able to find a solution for the French international even though he is clearly no longer in their plans. We have seen him being linked with clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and more, without any solution being found so far.

Now, it looks like a fresh European giant has emerged in the race to sign Nkunku from Chelsea with just days left in the summer transfer window. And they might already be the frontrunners.

The club we are talking about is AC Milan. Could we see Nkunku don the iconic red-and-black jersey this season? Plenty of players have made the move from Stamford Bridge to San Siro in recent years, including Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori.

As reported by Sky Sport, among the names being considered by AC Milan is Nkunku, with a basic agreement on a contract. Negotiations with Chelsea, however, are still to be finalised.

Of course, this is a major first step towards finding an exit for Nkunku. That being said, there are still quite a few hurdles to get over.

Chelsea paid £52 million to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig. And while they are not expected to recoup the entirety of that, they would still like to get as much as possible. So, it remains to be seen if AC Milan come in with a big enough offer to convince the Blues.

The possibility of Chelsea sticking with Nkunku cannot be ruled out either. So, let's just wait and watch how this story unfolds over the coming days.
