Chelsea have clearly let some very talented players leave in recent times. The likes of Marc Guehi, Ola Aina, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento have gone on to establish themselves as some of the best in the Premier League in their respective positions. One would argue that the Blues would have been in a better position with them at the club rather than going out and signing high-profile youngsters from around the world for inflated transfer fees.
This summer, Chelsea need some proven quality. Guehi is someone who appears to be on their radar, having helped Crystal Palace to FA Cup glory last season and established himself as an England international centre-back along the way.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, other clubs are interested in Guehi as well. And one of them might be getting closer to a deal.
As reported by Rudy Galetti, Liverpool are intensifying talks for Guehi and the club are close to agreeing personal terms with the centre-back. An official approach to Crystal Palace is expected soon.
'Close to agreeing' - Chelsea handed Marc Guehi transfer update
There had been some suggestions that Chelsea were hoping to let the Guehi saga drag on till later in the summer to bring down the transfer fee it would take to sign him. Unfortunately, it looks like there is little chance of that happening any longer with Liverpool pushing to sign him.
If Chelsea want to sign Guehi, they will have to move quickly. He is arguably the best option available right now. Premier League-proven, an England international and a graduate of the club's youth academy.
Chelsea have gotten the better of Liverpool in recent transfer races between the two clubs, namely in the case of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. But that was two years ago and right now, the Reds have the most exciting project in the Premier League.
