Chelsea have said goodbye to a number of their academy players in the recent past who have gone on to establish themselves as some of the best in their position. This list includes notable names like Jamal Musiala, Declan Rice, Nathan Ake, to name a few. That said, there are some talented youngsters who are yet to reach their true potential.

Conor Gallagher is one such individual. Chelsea transferred the 25-year-old midfielder last season to Spanish side Atletico Madrid for a fee of €42 million. However, things haven’t quite started off well for the Englishman as he would have liked under the management of Diego Simeone.

As a result, he might be looking for a way out this summer. And it seems a comeback to the Premier League, and London, could be on the cards.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace have approached Atletico Madrid over a potential return for Gallagher. Initial talks have taken place, and there is concrete interest for a loan move, but nothing has been agreed at this point.

Crystal Palace interested in former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

The player appeared in 95 matches for Chelsea before moving to Spain. Notably, Gallagher has previously played for Crystal Palace when he spent a season-long loan spell there in the 2021-22 season and was a regular in the team.

Chelsea already have one of the strongest midfields in the Premier League currently, with the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Andrey Santos, and more. Additionally, they are close to securing a deal for Xavi Simons. So, despite pre-existing links with Gallagher, the Blues shouldn’t be much concerned with this transfer.

Chelsea have already done an admirable job in this transfer window and must now focus on getting results with their reinforced squad. In the last matchup, they defeated West Ham 5-1 to register their first win of the season. The Blues face Fulham next, and the fans will hope for a similar display from the team. As for Gallagher’s transfer, the Blues are mere observers, and it remains to be seen if the player does make a Premier League return in a Crystal Palace shirt.
