In recent years, a number of Chelsea players have gone on to join Arsenal, despite the London rivalry. Most recently, Blues keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga completed his transfer to Mikel Arteta's side. Noni Madueke, who is facing uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge, could also follow the same path to join his former teammate.
Chelsea have brought in some players from Arsenal as well over the years including Ashley Cole, Olivier Giroud and Omari Hutchinson. Now, another player could potentially join this list.
Ethan Nwaneri, who is a highly-rated youngster, is being linked with a possible move to Chelsea this summer. The England youth international had a breakthrough season in the last campaign. He scored nine goals and provided two assists in 37 matches in all competitions for Arsenal.
Multiple clubs, including Chelsea, have taken notice of his performances. They are keeping a close eye on the player. But what does Nwaneri think about a move away from Arsenal?
David Ornstein reveals Ethan Nwaneri's stance on Arsenal amid Chelsea links
As reported by TBR Football, David Ornstein has spoken on The Athletic Podcast regarding Nwaneri’s future and said:
"There’s a similar situation, of course, with Ethan Nwaneri, an amazing talent, academy product, who we understand wants to stay at Arsenal.
“That doesn’t always mean it’s a foregone conclusion because you’ve got to get the deal right, his terms expire next summer."
Ornstein also confirmed Chelsea's interest in Nwaneri as the reliable journalist added:
"With Nwaneri, there’s interest building in him, no surprise, you’d be more surprised if there wasn’t.
“It’s clear that there’s interest on the continent from Germany. Interest from Chelsea. There will be tons of suitors for him if he is to become available. But, right now, the focus is on the talks.
“Are they going to reach an agreement? Arsenal want to. He will be keen to stay!"
Nwaneri has just a year left on his contract. As a result, although the player wants to stay at Arsenal, things could change quickly if the club fail to reach a renewal agreement with him.
At just 18 years old, Nwaneri has the potential to be one of the best players in England in the future. So, Chelsea will be delighted if they manage to bring him to Stamford Bridge next season.
As of now, these are just speculations, and there are plenty of ifs and buts surrounding the player's potential move to Chelsea in the future. However, in modern football, anything can happen. So, the Blues will need to keep a close eye on the situation.
Then again, there are question marks over Chelsea's need for Nwaneri. They already have Pedro Neto, while Estevao is set to arrive after the Club World Cup.
