Cole Palmer has recently been linked to Man United, but there's only one reason those bogus rumors have spread outside the transfer window: a slow month in the editorial calendar, with a need to drive clicks. To keep a long story short, Palmer going to Man United simply makes no sense at all.
You could count on one hand the number of men's players who started for both colors in Manchester. It's been a long while since the last player dared to wear both colors, and that player would be Carlos Tevez.
It simply doesn't happen anymore. It's a cardinal sin to play for both teams in a local rivalry. For some reason, Chelsea and Arsenal is an exception, but Chelsea has historically got the better end of that exchange. We digress...
Played for both in the Premier League - Man City and Man United
Player | Man City appearances (league) | Man United appearances (league) |
|---|---|---|
Carlos Tevez | 113 | 63 |
Andy Cole | 22 | 195 |
Andrei Kanchelskis | 10 | 123 |
Terry Cooke | 37 | 4 |
Peter Schmeichel | 29 | 292 |
* Owen Hargreaves was not included in this list. He made one substitute appearance for Man City.
Thankfully, Cole Palmer owes no loyalties to Man City. He is a Chelsea player, and if he keeps up his current pace, he could even go down in the hall of fame.
However, despite his love going towards Chelsea now, he still has a Man City past. This is enough of a deterrent for Man United as it is, but Cole Palmer would be committing a cardinal sin that nobody has committed since Carlos Tevez.
Cole Palmer is one of Chelsea's best players
It makes no sense at all for Chelsea to even consider selling Cole Palmer. If it were down to the club, they would keep him indefinitely.
We are still in the early days of his tenure, but it feels like Liam Rosenior is building something special at Chelsea. He is memed for being the ager of men, but that applies to nobody better than Cole Palmer.
Palmer has already come up leaps and bounds since signing for Chelsea, but he's nowhere near his final form yet. This is both exciting for Chelsea, and terrifying for rival fans.
Chelsea hit the jackpot with Palmer, and they do not need to cash in on him yet. That may change in the future, of course, but the fact of the matter is that Palmer shouldn't go anywhere.
You don't need to believe everything you read. Sometimes, a common-sense reader is in order. That common-sense tells us that Chelsea fans needn't worry about Cole Palmer.
