Chelsea have begun strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming season, with plans to reinforce severals areas of the pitch. The Blues have already secured the signing of Liam Delap to bolster their options up front, following an underwhelming season from Nicolas Jackson and the likely departure of Christopher Nkunku this summer.

The club’s attention has now shifted to other key areas, including the goalkeeper and centre-back positions. However, their top priority remains the acquisition of a right-footed left winger as the team currently lacks that profile.

Chelsea’s struggles on the left wing have persisted for quite some time now. Mykhailo Mudryk was suspended in December of last year, with no clear return date in sight. The situation worsened further as loanee Jadon Sancho had an underwhelming season, which led to his return to Manchester United.

As a result, Chelsea are desperate to bring in reinforcements on the wing in the summer transfer window. Enzo Maresca also conveyed similar thoughts during a recent interview.

Maresca urges Chelsea to bring in a left winger

As reported by Absolute Chelsea on X, Maresca said about the situation:

"Jadon [Sancho] is not with us so for sure that is a position we need to do something. We have Noni, Pedro and Ty only as the proper wingers so something for sure is going to happen..."

Chelsea have been heavily linked with several left-wingers with Jamie Gittens emerging as the top target. The club has already submitted three bids for the Englishman but failed to get the deal over the line before the FIFA Club World Cup, as Borussia Dortmund rejected all three offers. However, on the plus side, the Blues have already agreed on personal terms and are expected to return to the negotiating table.

If the Blues fail to bring in Gittens from Dortmund, they might try to sign Alejandro Garnacho, who has also been on the club’s radar for quite some time. With negotiations ongoing and the summer window now open, fans will have to wait a little longer to see who they choose to fill the void in the left flank.
