Tosin Adarabioyo once dreamed of being the Man City captain under Pep Guardiola. He never achieved that, but Enzo Maresca made that possible at Chelsea.
Enzo Maresca is not the most popular figure right now. After the highs of last season, Chelsea fans experienced a turbulent turnaround, and now, Chelsea looks worse for wear.
As it stands, the Blues are ninth in the Premier League table. It seems, at this stage, that they are playing most games with 10 players. There is a clear discipline issue at Chelsea right now, and many feel that Maresca needs to be doing more to nip that in the bud.
Regardless, it was great to see the mood lift slightly against Wolves. Chelsea progressed to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup after scoring four goals against the Wanderers, and during it, Tosin Adarabioyo was given the captaincy.
Pep Guardiola couldn't, so Enzo Maresca granted Tosin Adarabioyo's wish
In 2020, when the defender was still playing for Man City, he made a bold claim that he would, someday, become Man City captain. He also mentioned that he wanted to lift the Premier League and Champions League for the Sky Blue side of Manchester.
In his own words, Adarabioyo said: “In five years’ time I’d like to be captain of Man City and have won the Premier League and the Champions League. Definitely, it can happen."
Five years after he made this claim, Adarabioyo is no longer at Man City. However, he did eventually achieve his lifetime goal of being a captain, just at Chelsea, not Man City.
Enzo Maresca would have overlapped with Tosin Adarabioyo, only for a few months, when he was employed with Man City. It is fair to say, though, the relationship is to a much higher degree at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca probably doesn't know his strongest lineup at Chelsea. If he does, then it's a real shame, because he cannot use it consistently due to the disciplinary issues.
Tosin is not a sure starter at Chelsea, but he has the potential to be in the future. So far this season, he has started only three Premier League games, and came off the bench a further three times.
This weekend, Chelsea faces Tottenham Hotspur. Without a doubt, this is not the game for Maresca to be experimenting. Nevertheless, it would be nice to see Tosin play a part in this game, even if it's from the bench.
