Chelsea are looking to strengthen several positions in their squad during this transfer window. The club have finally secured the signing of Jamie Gittens and are also close to getting a deal done for Joao Pedro. There have also been reports of the Blues looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer.

The Blues were heavily linked with a move for Mike Maignan, hoping to bring him in as the new number one ahead of the Club World Cup. With the French keeper having just one year left on his contract, Chelsea believed he might be available at a bargain fee. However, they were proven wrong, as AC Milan have remained firm in their valuation, demanding around £21 million.

Recently, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca addressed the club’s goalkeeping situation following their failure to secure a new signing so far. And it does not look like there are plans to go back for Maginan.

According to London World, Maresca has said about the situation:

"The keeper situation is simple, Robert is No.1, Filip is No.2, and we will analyse and judge Penders. Maignan and different players at other clubs - I don't think it is worth talking about them."

It looks like Chelsea currently trust Robert Sanchez between the posts. On his day, he can be outstanding, but there’s no denying that he was shaky on several occasions last season and is prone to making errors that cost them goals.

Most recently, in Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Flamengo, the Spanish goalkeeper was directly at fault for the first goal and could have done better to stop the second. If the Blues want to challenge for titles, they will need a more reliable figure between the posts.

With the transfer window still open for a long period, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will bring in someone new or go into next season with Sanchez still as their main keeper. The Maignan deal might have collapsed, but there are still plenty of other options the Blues could target. For now, all we can do is wait and watch.
