Estevao is finally here. Chelsea fans have waited a long time for the Brazilian international to land at Stamford Bridge and that has finally happened, after an exceptional spell at Palmeiras. Incidentally, his last game for them was against the Blues at the recent Club World Cup, and he even scored, to give everybody a taste of what to expect moving forward.
Estevao is one of the most highly-rated talents in world football right now. But then again, it is very different being a talent and translating that into the Premier League. So many have failed in that aspect over the years.
The Premier League is the fastest and most physical competition in world football. Estevao will need to find a way to adjust to that pace and physicality if he wants to succeed in English football. It remains to be seen if he can do that.
He has set some lofty long-term goals for himself. That is for sure. While speaking in his first interview as a Chelsea player, the Brazilian said:
"I want to win all the titles possible: the Premier League and the Champions League as well. And personally, to be the best in the world and keep working hard so that these dreams come true."
Estevao makes bold claim in first Chelsea interview
Well, it is important to set your goals high. It is good to see that even at 18 years of age, he has the confidence to come out and publicly say what he wants to achieve in the game.
That being said, it would be unfair to expect Estevao to come in and immediately take the Premier League by storm. He must be given the necessary adjustment period. Do not hope to see him starting from day one.
Minutes could be easier to come by for him following Noni Madueke's recent exit though. That means that Estevao will be competing with Pedro Neto for a starting spot. Even as the backup, he should be able to get some decent playing time. Now, it is about making the most of that and making an impression on Enzo Maresca and the fans.
