Every word Jesse Derry has said following new Chelsea contract

Chelsea have made a point of being willing to listen to offers for nearly every player this summer, but one player who won't be leaving Stamford Bridge anytime soon is Jesse Derry.

The 19-year-old has signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2032.

Derry came through Crystal Palace's youth academy before moving to Cobham last year. He made his first team debut last season in an FA Cup fourth-round match against Hull City.

He was awarded his first Premier League start against Nottingham Forest at the end of the campaign, and although the young winger suffered a horrific head injury and was forced off, he certainly made a good impression.

Jesse Derry speaks about Chelsea future

Clearly promised he'll be given more first team action under new manager Xabi Alonso next season, and hopefully beyond, Derry has agreed to remain with the Blues for the next six years.

Discussing his new contract, which would have come with a significant pay rise, the talented teenager admitted he's grown as a player since being promoted to the first team.

"It's a dream come true to commit my future to such a big club like Chelsea," Derry told Chelsea's official website. "I’m just so excited for what’s to come.

‘"This last 12 months, I feel like a completely different player than when I first joined and that’s credit to all the coaches I’ve worked with. They've played such a big part in helping me get better.

"Just having that little snippet of playing for the first team last season, I couldn't have thought of anywhere else I'd want to be for my future. It was a no-brainer."

The future is bright

While there is a lot of talk about Chelsea's need to bring in more experienced and established players, Derry's commitment should not be understated.

He certainly isn't going to be expected to start every week under Alonso, but he will have a clear pathway to develop under the Spaniard.

And given Alonso's record of working with young players, fans will be hopeful it won't be too long before they can boast of having one of the country's most exciting wide attackers.

There is also a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of Alejandro Garnacho, and with Derry agreeing to stay and fight for a place in the first team, fans will be forgiven for thinking that it could come at the expense of the Argentine.
