So far, Chelsea have not been able to make their mark in the ongoing winter transfer window. The Blues have been looking to bring in a centre-back to strengthen Liam Rosenior's ranks, after overlooking Enzo Maresca's request to sign one in the summer. Jeremy Jacquet is believed to be their number one target but no agreement has been reached yet, with there being a significant gap between what Rennes want and what they are willing to offer.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea are able to find a breakthrough in that negotiation or not. But on the other hand, another player seems to be on the club's radar this month, although he is wanted only on a loan deal.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are only interested in a loan deal for Douglas Luiz. They are open to an option but not a mandatory obligation to sign the Brazilian at the end of it.

Luiz is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest. But there is speculation around his future as he has not been able to establish himself there.

Many might question the interest in a midfielder who is not cutting it at Nottingham Forest right now. That being said, Luiz is a proven Premier League player from his time at Aston Villa. His last season with the Villans, 23/24, was his best as well.

Chelsea's interest in Luiz also raises questions around Romeo Lavia. The Belgian once again has found himself on the sidelines with fitness issues.

Signed in the summer of 2023 in a £60 million transfer from Southampton, we have barely seen him feature since then, as he is constantly out injured. So, in the long run, Chelsea will need to find a more reliable replacement for him, whether that is Luiz or somebody else.
