Chelsea currently have one of the best midfields in the Premier League with players like Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, and Moises Caicedo. The club have also brought Andrey Santos to the first-team fold, after his impressive loan spell at Strasbourg, and he recently made his debut for the Blues against ES Tunis and provided an assist as well.
However, this hasn’t stopped the Blues from showing interest in midfielders to further strengthen the position. Before the start of the Club World Cup, Chelsea were linked with a move for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.
Aston Villa, who narrowly missed out on a Champions League spot to Newcastle United on goal difference, are believed to be reluctant to let the midfielder leave. But they might need to part ways with some important players in order to stay in line with PSR.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an important update regarding the player’s transfer situation. He said on his YouTube channel (via Chelsea News):
"Many top clubs are following Morgan Rogers. Aston Villa insist they don’t want to sell but let’s see what happens in the next days and weeks as he has many suitors."

In the event that Chelsea do manage to convince Aston Villa to part ways with Rogers, it’s worth noting that the youngster won’t come at a low transfer fee. It would take around €90 million.
Rogers is a versatile player who can operate on both wings as well as through the middle in the number 10 role. With Palmer already operating there for the Blues, it will be interesting to see which role he would be assigned if signed.
In addition to Chelsea, clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City are also monitoring the player’s situation, making any potential deal even more difficult to secure. And with the club believed to be closing in on a deal for Gittens, perhaps this one is somewhat unlikely to happen this summer. But never say never in football.
