Chelsea have secured some impressive deals in this summer transfer window, bringing reinforcements across multiple positions. However, a few more signings are still not fully reinforced ahead of the deadline. The deal for RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons falls under that category, as it has dragged on for longer than anticipated.

The Dutch international has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for the better part of this window and Chelsea have already chalked out a clear plan in their pursuit of the player. First, the Blues are working to raise funds by parting with some of their players like Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Renato Veiga, among others and then they plan to make a move for Simons.

Recently, some other clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester City also emerged as potential contenders for the player. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has provided a major update regarding Simons' next destination.

According to Romano, Simons has never considered other clubs as options besides Chelsea. All parties are waiting for Nkunku’s exit as the next step ahead of talks accelerating with RB Leipzig.

Bayern Munich and Man City were never an option for Xavi Simons, who wants only Chelsea

Simons has time and again reiterated his desire to wear the Royal Blue jersey. However, Chelsea are yet to find suitable suitors for the players they want to say goodbye to before making a move for the 22-year-old Dutch international.

It will be interesting to see where Maresca chooses to deploy Simons if or when he arrives. He is capable of playing in a number of positions across the pitch.

Nevertheless, with around two weeks left in the transfer window, Chelsea will need to move quickly. In modern football, things can change quickly, and waiting too long could see other clubs swooping in. They won’t want to close the window with a setback like that.
