Chelsea had a busy deadline day for sure, even though they did not make any headline additions to the squad. The Blues did officially announce the arrival of Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. There were hopes that they would make a significant move after losing out in the race for Xavi Simons to Tottenham Hotspur. But it was not to be. Instead, it looks like they have gone for a short-term fix with the Argentine international.
The Blues also quietly brought back Ishe Samuels-Smith. He had left the club for Strasbourg just earlier in the summer. So, it was a confusing move to say the least. And now, he has already joined Swansea City on loan as well.
There was another Chelsea player who made an under-the-radar exit on deadline day. And it is someone who would not have on most fans' minds.
The club announced on their official website that Alex Matos has joined Sheffield United. It is a permanent transfer.
Forgotten Chelsea player quietly joined English rivals on deadline day
Matos came through the youth ranks at Norwich City. But he would join Chelsea in the summer of 2023, before breaking into senior football. The move to Stamford Bridge has not worked as he would have imagined though.
Matos made only a couple of senior appearances during his time at Chelsea. He spent most of his time out on loan. This time around, he has left on a permanent basis though. We can only wish him the best of luck in his new adventure and hope that he does well at Sheffield United, who are at the very bottom of the Championship table after losing their first four games of the season.
So, Matos' immediate aim would be to help them get out of the relegation zone. Let's see how things go for him.
