Chelsea have not been very active in this January transfer window, which will be another point of frustration for the fans. The gaps in the squad are pretty clear. They do not have a consistent goalscorer who will get them 20-plus goals every season. In defence, the lack of a quality centre-back has been very clear in the absence of Levi Colwill.

Despite that, no move seems to be imminent. In fact, it will not come as any surprise if Chelsea end up signing nobody in this window at all, making things tougher for Liam Rosenior, who already has an uphill task on his hands.

Other clubs across the league are busy in strengthening their rosters though. One of them are Chelsea's London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, who are set to sign one of the Blues' former captains.

Conor Gallagher had found himself captaining Chelsea on a consistent basis when Mauricio Pochettino was the manager of the club. He would end up joining Atletico Madrid the following summer. Things have not gone as well as expected there, and now, the midfielder is headed back to London. Unfortunately, the Cobham graduate is set to turn out for one of their most heated rivals.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Gallagher to Tottenham is here we go. The player has just informed Atletico about his decision to join Spurs. They are set to pay a €40m fee. Aston Villa had agreed a deal with the Spanish club as well but have left the race as the player didn’t give the final green light.

Naturally, Chelsea fans won't like the fact that Gallagher will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur. But at the end of the day, this is professional football.

In reality, Gallagher had done well enough for Chelsea to keep his place at the club. But the ownership had other plans and did not seem eager to extend his contract. So, nobody can blame the midfielder for turning out for Spurs despite his history at Stamford Bridge.
