Christopher Nkunku: 5.5/10
Nkunku was dominated both on the ground and in the air. He was pushed around by Ipswich’s central defenders. He managed only one shot, a big chance, and missed it. McKenna’s men did not let him impose himself on the game.
Nicolas Jackson (55'): 5.5/10
Jackson could not get near the Ipswich center-backs in the 35 minutes he played. He was able to take a shot, but it was off target. Fans might have forgotten he played.
Jadon Sancho (65'): 5.5/10
Sancho was just as ineffective as Jackson. He too managed only a shot, which was easily blocked. It was a nothing cameo.
Malo Gusto (77'): 5.5/10
Gusto did well, managing to win all his duels in the 13 minutes he was on the field. He didn’t contribute going forward, and though the game was out of CFC's hands by the time he came on, he didn’t help matters.
Pedro Neto (77'): 5.5/10
Like Sancho, the highlight of Neto's cameo was a blocked shot and a completed dribble. He offered none of the things the Blues needed.
Enzo Maresca: 4/10
Maresca got credit for the winning streak and unbeaten run, so he should take the blame for these losses too. I’ve mentioned that the Blues have been shaky defensively, even when winning games. I also predicted that their poor finishing would eventually catch up with them, and now Chelsea is at that point.
Over the last two games, Maresca’s men have created seven big chances but scored only one goal. In the same span, they’ve allowed five big chances and conceded four goals. The Italian has no control over the conversion of clear-cut chances, but he has control over their concession, and he needs to fix the defense. The Blues are shockingly exposed at the back.
