It's no secret that Chelsea needs to add quality to several positions in the summer, including signing an elite and proven goalscorer.
According to recent reports, the name at thetop of Chelsea's wishlist for the summer is Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez.
The Argentina international is in his second season at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano after joining Los Colchoneros from Manchester City for just over £80 million.
Undoubtedly one of Europe's most clinical finishers, Alvarez is averaging a goal nearly every two games, including reaching double figures this season.
And it hasn't just been in Spain that the 25-year-old has proven his worth. During his two years at Manchester City, Alvarez produced the same kind of numbers.
What made the South American's goal involvements even more impressive was that the majority came from the bench. Playing second fiddle to the immovable Erling Haaland forced Alvarez to accept a transfer elsewhere in order to secure regular minutes.
And although things have gone well in Madrid for the former City man, another move could be on the cards at the end of the season, with Chelsea rumoured to want to bring him back to the Premier League. The timing of the proposed deal may leave fans questioning the club's foreplanning, though.
Julian Alvarez would have been a perfect signing for Enzo Maresca
Deciding to part ways with Enzo Maresca, Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior on a six-year deal at the start of this month.
Although Maresca's position at Stamford Bridge became untenable after tensions between him and the Blues' medical department rose to palpable levels, there is no doubt he would have loved to work with a player like Alvarez.
Not only did Alvarez master his craft while working under Pep Guardiola, but so did Maresca. Guardiola's mentorship is the common denominator when it comes to the Argentine and Rosenior's predecessor.
Should Chelsea open negotiations with Atletico Madrid for Alvarez and seek a deal that is likely to be worth over £75 million, fans will rightly be wondering why they didn't act sooner.
Building a squad that aligns with the manager's philosophy is crucial in modern football. It's half the reason why so many appointments don't work out.
However, while little could have been done to prevent Maresca from clashing with the physio team, adding players who have shared professional experiences could have certainly eased the Italian's willingness to depart so quickly.
Should Alvarez become Chelsea's next blockbuster signing, let's just hope Rosenior can have the same impact Maresca would have done.
