Liam Rosenior’s Enzo remark feels like bad news for Chelsea

Despite only being in the job a few months, Liam Rosenior is under intense pressure as Chelsea head coach.

The 41-year-old replaced Enzo Maresca in the Stamford Bridge hot seat at the start of the year and has shown himself to be a divisive figure.

Although he prides himself on his progressive approach to management, the former Strasbourg boss has become the subject of criticism for his inexperience at this level.

Even though Chelsea's owners are backing Rosenior, results are falling well below what is expected of his fine football club, and with four defeats on the bounce, the heat has turned up.

Liam Rosenior breaks silence on Chelsea sack pressure

Under scrutiny following Chelsea's recent 3-0 defeat away to Everton, Rosenior's back is against the wall. The former Hull City defender remains adamant he can turn things around, though.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about his Stamford Bridge future, Rosenior is sure the squad are fully committed to his ideas, including Enzo Fernandez, who recently suggested he could leave Chelsea in the summer.

"For me, I don't think there's a lack of effort. I don't think there's a lack of belief or determination in the team.

In fact, I felt like Enzo [Fernandez] kept going until the very, very last minute today [against Everton].

So, I'm aware when you're on a run of defeats that we're on, and when you're on a run of performances that we've had, those things get levelled at you. But I don't think that's the issue in this moment.
"

The Chelsea head coach's comments on Fernandez are likely an attempt to keep the Argentine on side but this suggests the boss doesn't have complete unity in the dressing room.

The World Cup-winning midfielder is undoubtedly an influential figure so Rosenior knows he can't let his restlessness spread throughout the rest of the squad ahead of what is a crucial period.

Champions League qualification remains the goal

Rosenior set Chelsea the target of finishing in the top four earlier in the season, and despite being six points adrift with just seven games to go, Champions League qualification remains the goal.

The Blues have an upcoming FA Cup quarter-final against League One side Port Vale to play but then face a tough domestic run-in.

Chelsea's first two games back in the Premier League will see them host both Manchester clubs before travelling to the south coast to take on Brighton.

Failure to take maximum points will almost certainly end any hopes Rosenior has of playing elite-level European football next season, and could, in turn, see his time in London cut short.

Regardless of how the side do between now and the summer, after handing Rosenior a six year deal worth £4 million-per year, BlueCo must decide whether or not to cut their losses before the start of next season.
