Chelsea endured a miserable night at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. The Blues were dumped out of the Champions League at the Last 16 stage after losing 8-2 on aggregate to holders PSG.
Liam Rosenior's task of overturning a three-goal deficit was virtually impossible after a poor display away in the first-leg ended in a 5-2 defeat.
Welcoming Luis Enrique's men to London, Chelsea knew they'd not only need to score three, but they'd also need to keep PSG out at the other end, and that proved impossible with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu all scoring.
And things went from bad to worse for Rosenior after Trevoh Chalobah got injured in the latter stages following a heavy challenge from Achraf Hakimi.
Liam Rosenior provides Trevoh Chalobah injury update
Named in Chelsea's starting lineup in Tuesday night's knockout tie, Chalobah, along with youngster Jorrel Hato, who replaced Wesley Fofana, formed part of a four man defence.
Chalobah, who has started in 39 games in all competitions this season, had to be stretchered off the Stamford Bridge with 10 minutes to go against PSG after his collision with Hakimi left him in a heap on the turf.
Speaking to Chelsea's official website after Tuesday's European match, Rosenior confirmed Chalobah is 'really worried' about the extent of the injury he suffered.
"I think he (Chalobah) was really worried. I've just checked with the medical team, we'll obviously scan and assess him tomorrow. We are hoping and praying that it's not as bad as we first feared."
Although it is too early to put a timeframe on Chalobah's impending absence, fans will not be expecting him to feature when the Blues visit David Moyes' Everton on the weekend.
Chelsea's injury list is mounting
Not only does it look like Chelsea are going to be without Chalobah, but with several other first team players also sidelined, Rosenior's hopes of finishing the season strongly are quickly fading.
In addition to the unfortunate Chalobah, the Blues are also without Levi Colwill (knee), Filip Jorgensen (pelvis), Jamie Gittens (thigh), Malo Gusto (illness) and captain Reece James (hamstring).
It isn't all doom and gloom, though. Estevao is back following a seven week injury layoff.
The young Brazilian was named on Chelsea's subs bench for Tuesday's game against PSG, and even though Rosenior opted against bringing him on, there is renewed hope the winger can make his long-awaited return against the Toffees at Goodison Park on Saturday.
