Chelsea's recent defeat at home to Manchester United was just the latest in a long line of disappointing results.

The Blues fell to a 1-0 home defeat after Matheus Cunha's first half opener turned out to be the only goal of the game. Chelsea's run of failing to score a single goal now spans four consecutive league matches.

Although the result, and Chelsea dropping 10 points off fourth, was the biggest talking point, Wesley Fofana's emotional reaction to being substituted also raised questions.

After being substituted off with 10 minutes to play, the French defender, who put in a remarkably impactful performance, was seen pushing his way past one of the club's first team coaches on his way down the tunnel.

The clip, which has been widely shared on social media platform X by user: @TheBlueDodger, has forced Liam Rosenior to respond.

Liam Rosenior explains Wesley Fofana's touchline incident

Addressing the footage, which saw Fofana quite obviously frustrated, the Chelsea head coach, as quoted by The Sun, explained the defender's 'emotional character' got the better of him but assured fans he has since apologised for the outburst.

"Wes is a very emotional character in a good way. I love him. As a guy, he’s not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve.

I’ve spoken to him about it and he’s just disappointed that we’re losing the game.

I do think he could show emotion in a better way and that’s something that I’ve spoken about but the optics on that is not the reality.

The reality is I’ve got a really good group. They’re working really, really hard for me and for the staff and for the club.

At the moment, the results aren’t going that way and then people start reading more into it than what it actually is.

Wes apologised for his reaction but these are young players who are going to make mistakes in the moment."

Trevoh Chalobah was the player brought on in Fofana's place and Rosenior clearly feels that decision wasn't the cause of the Frenchman's outburst; more so that the side were starring down another defeat.

Players' behaviour becoming a major cause for concern

Fofana is just the latest player to hit headlines after Enzo Fernandez, Marc Cucurella and Alejandro Garnacho have all criticised the club, for varying reasons, publicly in recent weeks.

While many will feel Rosenior has handled the Fofana incident fairly, there will certainly be concerns over whether or not the 41-year-old has the stature required to deal with such large egos.

Rosenior is a young manager and one who is inexperienced at this level, and certainly at a club the size of Chelsea.

BlueCo may very well be backing him now, but the more incidents that appear to bring the club into disrepute, the more questions will be asked about whether hiring the former Hull City defender was the right decision.
