Chelsea are going into the new season with one of the strongest squads in the world, having signed Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Jorrel Hato. The club have also welcomed highly rated youngster Estevao recently, alongside an equally impressive Dario Essugo. Additionally, the Blues are pushing to bring in Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho in this summer transfer window.
Liverpool are another team who have assembled a strong squad this summer. They are the current Premier League champions, and Chelsea will certainly want to change that in the upcoming season. But it won't be easy considering the intent the Reds are showing in the transfer market.
Chelsea have already lost their long-time target Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool this summer. Now, it appears the Reds are moving in on another one of the Blues’ rumoured targets.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Marc Guehi. Negotiations are underway with Crystal Palace for a fee around £35m as the total package, and a deal could be done soon.
Former Chelsea defender Marc Guehi has agreed personal terms with Liverpool
Guehi left Chelsea in 2021 to join Crystal Palace. Since joining the Eagles, he has established himself as one of the best in his position in the Premier League. A £35m fee sounds like quite the bargain for a player who was rated at twice that figure merely months back.
Chelsea have already secured the signing of Hato to strengthen their defence. That said, Levi Colwill has suffered an ACL injury and will be out for an extended period. As a result, further reinforcements might be needed in that area.
Therefore, it will come as a bit of a setback that Guehi has already agreed to terms with Liverpool, in case Chelsea decide to move for a centre-back in the future. With only a few weeks left before the transfer window closes, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will bring in a new signing or place their trust in the current options in the defensive department.
