It is important to move fast in the transfer window, or other clubs could swoop in for your targets. Chelsea might learn that lesson this summer, with it looking like Liverpool are planning to make an offer for one of their top targets. And the Premier League champions have raised funds to make that move happen.
Liverpool have been on a roll this summer. They have signed Jeremie Frimpong already and are believed to be close to getting deals over the line for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez as well.
But they might not stop there. It is believed that they want to strengthen at centre-back as well and appear to have one of the Premier League's best on their radar to fill that need. Someone also wanted by Chelsea.
As reported by The Telegraph, Liverpool are expected to make a significant offer for Marc Guehi. The Premier League champions have moved swiftly to raise funds with Jarell Quansah headed for Bayer Leverkusen in a £30m transfer.
Liverpool set to make offer for top Chelsea target
Guehi came through the youth ranks at Chelsea but left the club in a £18m move to join Crystal Palace. There, he has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League, an England international and would walk into most teams in the world.
Of course, parting ways with Guehi was a mistake. Chelsea could be looking to rectify that this summer. But are they in a position to win a transfer race against Liverpool at this point in time.
Well, the Blues have had Liverpool's number in recent years, signing both Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo ahead of them a couple of summers back. Things have changed since then though. Arne Slot's side are the defending Premier League champions and might get a lot better over the summer.
Chelsea will be hoping that the boyhood connection with the club helps them secure the signing of Guehi. Also, he would get an immediate starting spot at Stamford Bridge. Will that be the case at Liverpool, who already have a settled Premier League-winning centre-back duo?
