Chelsea are looking to bolster several areas of their squad in this summer's transfer window. They are particularly focused on bringing in a right-footed left-winger, a versatile striker, and a centre-back. But it looks like Liverpool are also interested in signing one of their targets, as a replacement for Federico Chiesa.

When it comes to left winger, Chelsea have identified Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens as their primary target. However, after three failed bids to sign the player, there is no clear indication of whether a deal will be reached. There’s also the added challenge of Bayern Munich entering the race to sign the player.

In the meantime, the Blues have begun exploring alternative options for the position in case they are unable to secure the signature of the Dortmund youngster. One name that has come up is Malick Fofana, with the club reportedly having already enquired about the player.

However, it appears they are not the only Premier League club interested in the player. Reports are suggesting that Liverpool are also looking to sign him.

Liverpool to rival Chelsea in their transfer pursuit of Fofana

As reported by Sky Sport, Liverpool want a €15 million offer to part ways with Chiesa. On the other hand, they remain genuinely interested in Fofana. Barry Hunter, the Reds' head of recruitment, has placed him at the top of his list.

This marks the second instance of a rumoured Chelsea target attracting interest from Liverpool. The Reds are also believed to be pursuing the signature of Marc Guehi.

Gittens is believed to be Chelsea's top target in that position. But at the same time, they need to keep a close eye on the Fofana situation. There is a possibility that the Blues might end up losing out on both if they don't act in a timely manner.
