Chelsea are looking to reinforce their squad in the ongoing summer transfer window, with several positions in need of strengthening. The primary focus is currently on the left flank and central defence. While the centre-back spot remains undecided, as no clear top target has emerged, the left-wing situation is different with the Blues actively pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.
However, Chelsea’s move to bring in the youngster has been stalled for quite some time now. Before the FIFA Club World Cup, the Blues submitted as many as three bids but saw each one of them rejected by Borussia Dortmund.
With each passing day, more hurdles seem to be emerging for Chelsea in their pursuit of Gittens. Earlier, it was reported that Arsenal had expressed interest in the youngster. Now, another European giant has reportedly followed suit.
As reported by Kicker, Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has Gittens on his radar. He is said to be in talks with the player.
Chelsea suffer a major setback as Bayern Munich enter the race to sign Gittens
Gittens is currently valued in the region of €65-70 million by Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea’s third bid was believed to be around €55 million and was not deemed enough.
Meanwhile, the youngster is believed to have a preference to join the Blues. Chelsea have a major advantage over Bayern Munich as they already have a verbal agreement in place with Gittens for a seven-year deal.
That being said, Bayern Munich could pose a serious problem to Chelsea’s plans if they submit a higher bid before the Blues make their next move. It is hard to imagine that Gittens would be completely against the idea of joining the Bavarians. So, time is of the essence at this moment, and the Blues will have to act quickly to get the deal over the finish line.
