Chelsea have been one of the busiest teams in world football over the past few years, signing players left, right and centre. Some of those moves have worked, and others have not. Their fans have complained that the club have not brought in enough proven and experienced names to Stamford Bridge. But even when they have, their record has been hit-and-miss.
A perfect example of this is Christopher Nkunku. When the Frenchman was signed, many viewed it as the move that would transform this team back into title contenders.
A couple of seasons on and Nkunku has spent most of his time sitting on the bench or dealing with injury problems. Of course, the emergence of Cole Palmer made it difficult for him to hold onto a place in the team.
The issue with Nkunku is, he is not physical enough to be the number 9 in the Premier League and not fast enough to play on the flanks. So, his best fit would be in the number 10 role or as a secondary striker. Palmer is better in both those roles, meaning the Frenchman has ended up becoming an option rather than being the main man for Chelsea.
Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool all want to sign Chelsea flop
Despite his struggles at Stamford Bridge, there is no lack of interest in the Frenchman. As reported by the Mirror, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are all interested in signing Nkunku this summer. The Blues will likely look to recoup as much of the £52 million transfer fee they paid to sign him as they can.
Will Chelsea be open to sending Nkunku to one of their direct Premier League rivals though? In the recent past, they have shown that the club does not view it as a problem. Jorginho, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount are great examples.
There is believed to be interest in Nkunku from outside England as well though. Bayern Munich and PSG are two top European teams believed to be keeping an eye out for him. So, let's see how this transfer saga plays out.
