Manchester United made contact about signing Chelsea player

It looks like Manchester United made contact about signing a Chelsea player late in this summer window.

Over the years, we have seen quite a few players make the move from Chelsea to Manchester United. Juan Mata made that journey after failing to establish himself in Jose Mourinho's plans, only to play under him at Old Trafford later on. Nemanja Matic also made the same switch despite helping the Blues win the Premier League the season before that. And most recently, it was Mason Mount who joined the Old Trafford outfit, although things are not going to plan there.

Manchester United clearly have a habit of signing midfielders from Chelsea. The midfield remains a problem for Ruben Amorim's side. And it looks like one again, they have set their eyes on Stamford Bridge.

It is no secret that Manchester United were trying to sign a midfielder this summer. The majority of the talk was about Carlos Baleba but that move did not materialise. Neither did one for Chelsea's Romeo Lavia.

As reported by United in Focus, Graeme Bailey said:

"Speaking to sources, away from the likes of Baleba, Hjulmand and Gallagher – another they did ask about was Lavia.

“Lavia is a very interesting option and not one Chelsea thought about letting go am told, but let’s see what happens with him. Andrey Santos has come in now too, things could be different in January."

There is no doubt about the fact that Lavia is a brilliant player. Whenever he has played for Chelsea, he has been an impressive figure. But availability is the best quality for footballers, and unfortunately, he is lacking in that department.

Lavia has barely been available since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023. While Moises Caicedo has become known for how much he has played over those two seasons, arriving in the same window, the Belgian international has done the opposite.

Now, Chelsea do have other options in that position. Andrey Santos has arrived after an excellent loan spell at Strasbourg. Dario Essugo looks like a talent as well, from what we saw in pre-season. Let's see what the future holds for Lavia, as letting him go cannot be completely ruled out, especially if he continues to struggle with injuries.
