Manchester United know that they need to improve their squad significantly this summer having finished 15th in the Premier League last season. One of the most worrying things for them will be the fact that their form worsened after replacing Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim. But the club seem ready to back the Portuguese boss and a Chelsea player appears to be on their radar.
There are quite a few high-profile Chelsea players who could be heading for the exit door this summer. One of the names that falls under that category is that of Christopher Nkunku.
When Nkunku was signed, he was viewed as a game-changer. Someone who would take Chelsea to the next level and become one of the faces of the team.
The Frenchman has failed to do that. He has been featured in the number 10 role, on the left flank and as a striker. But in none of those positions has he been able to establish himself as a starter for the Blues, mostly playing as an impact substitute or in cup games. So, it might be time for a change of Nkunku. Could Old Trafford be his next destination?
Manchester United open talks to sign £52m Chelsea player
As reported by L'Equipe, Manchester United have begun initial talks for Nkunku. They the entourage of the Frenchman in recent days to discuss the terms of a possible transfer, without having, to date, made an offer.
Nkunku has shown flashes of quality even while at Chelsea. It has just not clicked for him on a consistent basis. He is perhaps at his best as a number 10 but Cole Palmer is a nailed-on starter there.
Perhaps it could go much better for Nkunku if he joins a club like Manchester United. The quality is clearly there. The Frenchman just needs a team where he will start on a consistent basis.
