Manchester United have found some form in recent weeks. While some suggestions of them being potentially in the title race are most likely premature, it is possible that they are on the right path. Fears that Ruben Amorim could be sacked have been pushed away for the time being. Bear in mind, not too long ago, it was looking inevitable. But the win against Chelsea did turn things around for them.
Speaking of Chelsea, the Blues have been very shaky themselves. One cannot overlook the fact that they have won six of their last seven games though, even if the performances have been far from convincing. The latest of them was an away win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Just like Manchester United, they still need to strengthen their squad though. And it looks like both clubs have a common transfer target.
As reported by CaughtOffside, Manchester United are ready to step up their efforts to sign Elliot Anderson in January. The Nottingham Forest midfielder is also on the radar of Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Manchester United step up move for £70m Chelsea target
It is believed that it could take a transfer fee in the region of £70 million to sign Anderson from Nottingham Forest. That is still significantly lower than the £120 million figure that was suggested in the media not too long ago.
It is safe to say that things have not gone Nottingham Forest's way in recent times. Relegation is a real possibility. And if that happens, do not be surprised to see that transfer valuation decline further. At the same time, though, they have looked a lot better since the appointment of Sean Dyche.
To be honest, it is hard to imagine why Chelsea would be willing to go out and spend that kind of money to sign Anderson. He is a very good player for sure but the Blues already have the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos. Dario Essugo had looked incredibly impressive in pre-season but is currently out injured, having undergone surgery for an issue picked up on international duty.
