Chelsea’s Morgan Rogers will get his chance in an England shirt this evening as the Nations League campaign continues.
The Three Lions face the Czech Republic at Prague’s Fortuna Arena, looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to European and world champions Spain.
Rogers will line up in his natural position as the central attacking midfielder, playing behind Harry Kane and between wingers Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon, with all three retaining their places from the Spain defeat.
He replaces Jude Bellingham in the starting XI and will be looking to bring his excellent domestic form onto the international stage. Rogers has three goals and one assist in five Premier League games this season, while he also produced a hat-trick of assists in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup goalfest against Leeds United.
There are also three changes in the defence as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Trevoh Chalobah, Lewis Hall and Morgan Rogers replace Jarell Quansah, Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly, with the latter two enforced through minor injuries.
The game is expected to be closely contested, with both sides looking to get their Nations League campaigns back on track during this three-week international break. Czechia are also without a point in Group A3 after a 2-1 home defeat to Croatia on Saturday.
Hopefully, Rogers can carry his good form into the international break before returning to Stamford Bridge injury-free and ready to link up with Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro for Chelsea’s clash with AFC Bournemouth on October 10.
