Chelsea's holy grail is winning the Champions League, something their opponents have done a record eight times, so can the Blues make a statement of intent? To commence their league phase campaign a week ago, they beat Austria Wien 1-0 at Plough Lane; Wieke Kaptein the only scorer.
Then, on Sunday, Sonia Bompastor's team claimed a massive victory in the WSL title race, beating fierce London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Alyssa Thompson scored the only goal of the afternoon shortly before half time, lashing home on the rebound.

This makes it four wins in a row for Chelsea, who are building momentum. This is the Blues toughest fixture of the league phase, and is also a massive occasion for Bompastor, up against her former side. She won seven major trophies during three season in charge of Lyon, including the Champions League in 2022, beaten by Barça Femení in Bilbao two years later. So now, can she lead her current employers to victory over a former side?
As for OL Lyonnes, since 2011, they have featured in 12 of 17 Champions League Finals, getting their hands on this trophy eight times, albeit have not done so since Bompastor was in charge in 2022. Back in May, les Fenottes did return to the final, but were demolished 4-0 by Barcelona in Oslo.
Well, Jonatan Giráldez's team certainly made an impressive start to this season, annihilating Servette Chênois Féminin 8-0 at Stade de Genève on matchday one. Marie-Antoinette Katoto scored a hat-trick and Melchie Dumornay bagged a brace, while Inès Benyahia was also on target, alongside two own goals.
Lyon continue to dominate domestically, winning the Première Ligue in every season bar one since 2006, starting the new campaign with three wins out of three, scoring just the 22 goals. This includes demolishing Paris FC 7-1. This though will be, by some distance, les Lyonnaises' toughest test of the campaign, making Wednesday's clash at Parc Olympique Lyonnais tough to call, but not a game you'll want to miss.

Having not been in action over the weekend, there is little reason for Jonatan Giráldez to change very much. Ada Hegerberg is the Champions League's all-time leading scorer with 69 goals, set to continue in attack, with hat-trick scorer Marie-Antoinette Katoto in Switzerland in support.
USWNT star Lily Yohannes and summer signing from Barcelona Salma Paralluelo are other players to keep an eye on.

In complete contrast, Sonia Bompastor's team had one of their biggest games of the season at the weekend, so fatigue could be an issue. Despite slight injuries, both Lauren James and Kiera Walsh started against Arsenal, but will they be fit to do so again, while Naomi Girma is only just returning following an injury of her own?
This will be Katie McCabe's 70th appearance in the Champions League, the second-most of an Irish player, behind only Emma Byrne.
