On paper, the mood around Chelsea and Manchester United has been very different this season. Yet, both clubs are on the same number of points. Now, it remains to be seen how things go from here. Ruben Amorim finally seems to be getting a tune out of his team. On the other hand, Enzo Maresca's side have stumbled against out-of-form teams after winning against Barcelona and drawing against Arsenal despite being down to ten men.

That just goes on to show the shortcomings of having an experienced squad as well as the constant tweaks to the lineup, which prevent the team from building any kind of momentum. Yet, it does not look like the club are willing to move away from their methods.

In fact, it is expected that they will try to sign youngsters once again when the transfer window opens. And one of the players believed to be on their radar is Kobbie Mainoo.

Once upon a time, he was considered the best big thing at Manchester United. But Mainoo has not made a single start in the Premier League this season as he is clearly not a big part of Amorim's plans. And Paul Scholes has admitted that he would advise him to join Chelsea if asked.

As reported by ChelsTransfer, Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast:

"Do you know what? You’d have to advise him to go [to Chelsea], wouldn’t you?’"

Scholes further went on to add:

"If he rang me and said “look, Chelsea are interested, what do you think?” I’d say go all day long.’"

On the same podcast, Nicky Butt described Mainoo as a top, top, top player. He also believes that the midfielder has lost 18 months of development at Manchester United and needs to leave for his career.

Mainoo showed a ton of promise while breaking through at Manchester United. He even has 10 appearances for England to his name. But for some reason, it has not worked out for him under the management of Amorim.

It is believed that he was eager to leave in the summer itself but Manchester United were not ready to part ways at that point. But considering how limited his opportunities have been since then, it might be best for both parties if he ended up leaving in the winter.
