Chelsea latest: bid denied; release clause inserted; what's going on with Nkunku?

The Pride of London assess the latest Chelsea Football Club news and rumours as the Blues deny knowledge of a rejected transfer bid. A release clause is also inserted for a promising loan star. Meanwhile, what's going on with unfit striker Christopher Nkunku?

OK, let's get started straight away. First of all, PoL would like to comment on the apparent bid for Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres moved from Coventry City to Sporting Lisbon in the previous transfer window. The centreforward has been a tremendous success in Portugal having scored 20 goals in 24 appearances. Whether he could master the Premier League remains to be seen, though the 25-year-old has earned a chance in football's superior domestic division.

However, Nizaar Kinsella revealed that CFC have 'denied' making an approach for the Sweden international. Furthermore, the Evening Standard reporter suggests that the Blues have 'ruled out' a bid for the attacker in January. Nevertheless, the west Londoners do desire a new striker and have several options on their wishlist, claims Kinsella.

Next up is Ian Maatsen, currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund. The significant element of note for people who rate Maatsen, such as myself, is that he wasn't sold outright. There is a possibility that the Dutchman may return to Stamford Bridge one day. Although, there is supposedly now a £35 million release clause attached to the left-sided player's new CFC agreement. Whether that ultimately works to help another club sign him or he remains a Blue is anyone's guess at present.

And finally, what is Nkunku's status? Basically he is still a fitness concern. The second striker is being assessed prior to the English Football League Cup semifinal versus Middlesbrough on Tuesday, Jan 23. There is more here. If you ask me, it is essential that the former RB Leipzig man returns soon.
