Unwanted Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell is not in a good place job-wise at present. The former Leicester City player's Blues status is seemingly nonexistent under new manager Enzo Maresca. A decision from the Italian which did surprise a few people. But not this writer. The left back's future has now been plunged into further darkness after a prospective new club decided not to pursue the fragile full back.
Meanwhile famous actor and retired football chopper Vinnie Jones offered some rather radical advice to CFC outcast Raheem Sterling. Sterling is another high profile star at Stamford Bridge who is not in the one-time Foxes boss's current plans. And Jones, ever the dramatic attention-seeker, has actually told the talented but incongruous footballer to hang up his boots. What a ridiculous stance to take for the 59-year-old, although it is utterly unsurprising.
Ben Chilwell needs a new club fast, but that fresh start won't come at Manchester United
Chilwell is another shunned professional at Cobham who possesses a skill set easily competent enough to enable him as a Premier League starter. Though, one must naturally be in the right squad at the right moment. The 27-year-old is not even at the appropriate club.
And, with his age and quality, Chilwell would expect to have achieved more for his team by now. There is also the relinquished England spot which seems a mile away from Chilwell's clutches now. Injury and a sometimes tenuous capacity against stronger opponents didn't help his legacy either.
Yet Chilwell has the time and aptitude to reinvent himself and succeed. However, apparent admirers Man United are not in the market for the Milton Keynes-born man. The Red Devils were previously linked with the defender over the offseason, though aren't interested.
Transfer oracle Fabrizio Romano threw cold water over a possible switch to Old Trafford. Chilwell's name was mentioned as a prospective makeweight in an ill-advised move for the out of form Jadon Sancho. Irrespective, Raheem Sterling is the more likely swap protagonist there.
Raheem Sterling's presumably unwelcome guidance from Vinnie Jones of all people
Jones may have stopped playing and nestled into a cushty - and somewhat unfathomable - Hollywood career. But that scenario is not on the cards for Sterling. Having probably played his final game for the Blues, the latter needs a different club not a separate career.
Nevertheless, the ex-Chels' midfielder gave public counselling to the former England winger:
"Sterling not being in the squad was a little eyebrow-raiser. Everything comes to an end though and he’s done all right. He scored a few goals, and he might do a job for someone else, but he’s had a fantastic career and if I was him I might think about going into something else."
