Potter's perfect Chelsea storm: Spanish talk, Falklands, Taylor Swift, England boss?

One-time Chelsea manager Graham Potter has spoken of his perfect Blues storm: what transpired, what happened next, how he dealt with it, what is to come and much, much more. This includes the former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach talking Spanish lessons, with a hint aimed at joining Spain's La Liga. He travelled to the United States of America for various reasons involving relaxation and study. He also attended a presumably cathartic Taylor Swift concert.

Not to mention that Potter undertook a few other strange procedures to come to terms with his admittedly upsetting CFC sacking. This probably included speaking all things managerial and about life with England Rugby boss Steve Borthwick!? The ex-Swansea City and Ostersunds gaffer was asked of links to the Three Lions job in The Telegraph interview as well. Though Potter has essentially distanced himself from the highly coveted position, intentionally or otherwise, due to a cause that will be illuminated.

Yeah, Graham Potter's revealing and candid chat about Chelsea time with The Telegraph is wholly random, informative and simultaneously entertaining

I am still of the opinion that Potter needed more time at Stamford Bridge. Hear me out before embracing initial skepticism. The incapable CFC ownership gave him a five-year contract, so the faith was there. Yet no manager can create his own vision in six or seven months whilst a competitive season is already underway.

"It was almost like the perfect storm"
Graham Potter

This is in addition to Potter having to navigate a club going through upheaval and enormous evolution. He was given a load of skilled yet unproven players to handle. His transfer wish for two proven signings regarding the £300 million spent was ignored. He had minimal influence and control on Fulham Road, quite obviously.

Ultimately that disregarding and the sway held by Boehly and Eghbali probably led to Chels' missing out on a star duo. We are speaking about footballers of the calibre of midfield general Declan Rice and England captain Harry Kane. Potter specifically mentioned the pair as being on his radar. Just imagine the side with those two in it: security and goals galore.

Potter is without doubt a unique football manager, and that's refreshing

How the Solihull-born man dealt with eventually being dismissed from his Blues role is intriguing, distinctive and rather idiosyncratic. As a jobless ex-sportsman, Potter went to a Taylor Swift gig. I know, right. But that was not all, he was able to do almost anything random he desired:

"'I don’t have any regrets over doing it, but, at the same time, when anybody loses their job, there’s an element of frustration, anger and maybe bitterness at some point.

'The most important thing was to be with my family and friends, just connect with them.

'I spent some time with Steve Borthwick at England rugby. I went to the US and saw some sports over there, some organisations.

'I went to the Falklands and did a leadership talk, and, much to the horror of my 14-year-old boy, I went to see Taylor Swift in concert. He’s not as much of a fan as me.'

"Potter also hinted his next job could be in LaLiga after taking Spanish lessons.

"However, Potter doesn't seem overly keen on taking the England job should interim Lee Carsley not get it permanently."

He added: 'I like the day-to-day and the building process of club management'."
