Shock Premier League name linked with Chelsea job if Pochettino exits

There was a bit of a shock for Chelsea fans as they checked the football rumours on Thursday . A well-known name in the Premier League is currently being linked with the top Blues job - if Mauricio Pochettino is eventually sacked. Would Eddie Howe, head coach of the west Londoners' EPL rivals Newcastle United, make a good CFC manager? I am not so sure.

Howe has done a great job overall at Newcastle. He has surpassed his achievements at Bournemouth. The Magpies man appears to be respected and appreciated by the NUFC squad. But I don't think he'll last at St. James' Park with the ultra-wealthy north east England club eyeing major trophies.

Howe has all the requirements necessary for an EPL gaffer, all but one. The 46-year-old is arguably just not ruthless enough with players (see Dan Burn), or blindly intent on securing silverware with unwavering intent. The same might be said of Pochettino.

Further compliancy worries for Chelsea regarding Premier League sustainability rules

Todd Boehly and Co. have shelled out around £1.2 billion on transfer as things stand. A ridiculous amount. That view is upheld by the fact that the team has gotten worse since Boehly and Behdad Eghbali relieved Thomas Tuchel of duty at Stamford Bridge. Oh dear. May I just add that I admire the chairman's effort, but pity many of his decisions.

The astonishing spending is obviously connected to Chelsea's latest £90.1m pre-tax loss announcement. Oh dear again. Although, these situations can transpire at the biggest clubs, to be fair. Yet rules put in place by the Premier League 'limit clubs to losses of £105m over a three-year period'. That has naturally sparked fears over sustainability compliance for the American financier and Clearlake Capital investors. Read more here.
