According to one notable football website and source of believable information, there are now a mere seven Premier League stars who are now more valuable than Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer. But I would, subjectively, argue that the former Manchester City starlet is actually a superior player to most if not all of them!
A few surprises are in store as some electrifying footballers have been omitted from the top 10, or even top 25! So which standout English top-flight performers are above the Blues playmaker? Some choices are justified - but which preeminent ballers missed out on the list for whatever reason?
What's Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer's current value before latest heroics taken into account?
Palmer was unstoppable, clinical and, once again, prolific in the Blues' previous match versus Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge. The No.20 is enjoying a great start to the campaign, in spite of some surprise and negative media talk regarding a lack of goals.
What those journalists, pundits and fans didn't realise is that the generational talent that is Palmer was facilitating his teammates as the season began. The young forward now attracts much attention from opposing defensive midfielders. Along with being man-marked and doubled-up on by many sides Chels' have faced so far.
Encouragingly for the west London outfit, they have a manager capable of devising strategems to resolve issues such as Palmer's close marking. Enzo Maresca sought to get the England international more space and time after some defences sticking to him like glue.
The tactic of creating areas for Palmer to work in paid off dramatically versus the Seagulls this weekend. As well as netting a world-class free-kick and a cooly dispatched penalty, the 22-year-old also scored twice from open play in the first 45 minutes.
To score four in a Premier League match is simply incredible. To do so in only the first half of an EPL encounter is remarkable and awe-inspiring. Palmer is the real deal. Chelsea and Three Lions supporters are very lucky to have him, indeed!
Palmer's price tag
And all this will raise Palmer's supposed €80 million valuation on transfermarkt.com. He is joined on that figure by Arsenal's William Saliba and Manchester City's Ruben Dias.
Only a handful of top-flight players surpass that amount: Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Rodri, Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard and Bruno Guimaraes. Surprisingly, Kevin De Bruyne is at number 47, costing €50m.
