Real Madrid could let Rodrygo join Chelsea for surprising fee

It appears that Real Madrid could let Rodrygo join Chelsea for a surprising fee at the end of the year.

It is always difficult to maintain a place in the starting XI of Real Madrid. Rodrygo has found that out since the change of managers. While the Brazilian was one of Carlo Ancelotti's favourites, he is not nearly as important in Xabi Alonso's plans. As a result, he has only started three games so far this season. On the other hand, Chelsea are believed to be monitoring his situation.

In the past, when Rodrygo was linked with a move away from Real Madrid, a transfer fee north of €100 million was suggested. But that is not in line with his current place in Los Blancos' team or his output.

As we already mentioned, he has only started in three of the twelve games he has featured in this season. And even more worryingly for Real Madrid, he has not scored a single goal.

As reported by Defensa Central, Real Madrid, at the end of the year, could settle for getting €50-55 million for Rodrygo. That is far from the €90-100 million that was asked for him last summer.

Of course, in the past, we have talked about the shortcomings in Rodrygo's game. For spurts, he looks like the best player on the planet. But then, for large portions of the season, he struggles for form and output. In many ways, we have seen something similar with Willian at Chelsea.

That being said, if the report is accurate and Rodrygo could be available for a transfer fee in the region of €50 million, then Chelsea definitely have to consider a move. He is a two-time Champions League winner who is still just 24 years of age.

On top of that, a downturn in his form might have a lot to do with confidence as well. He is no longer as important to the team as he once was. Rodrygo might be the type of player who thrives on being 'the man', which he is not at Real Madrid at the moment.
