West London rivals Brentford held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw on Saturday night. This is certainly not the start the Blues were hoping for in the Premier League. However, it should not be overlooked that they are still undefeated after four games this season despite suffering multiple injuries and fitness concerns.
Chelsea will now travel to Germany to take on Bayern Munich in their first Champions League fixture on Wednesday. However, a recent report has emerged, which states that one of the biggest clubs in Europe is interested in one of the Blues' most prominent players.
According to the Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Enzo Fernandez is Real Madrid's favourite to strengthen their midfield. They will try to sign him if the FA sanctions Chelsea severely and the Blues are unable to keep its biggest stars.
The Blues have been charged with 74 breaches of FA regulations. Although these violations occurred before BlueCo's takeover of the club, Chelsea are still expected to face some sort of punishment. However, because the club self-reported the issue, they are expected to receive a slightly lighter sanction.
Real Madrid ready to sign Chelsea player on one condition
Chelsea may be subject to a fine, a transfer ban, or a points deduction in the Premier League. The Blues are optimistic about the situation, but in the worst-case scenario, if they face severe financial penalties, Real Madrid may grab the opportunity to test the waters to sign Fernandez.
Fernandez has been a target for Real Madrid for several years, they wanted to sign him before his move to Chelsea after the 2022 World Cup. However, Los Blancos have maintained track of his progress ever since they lost out on signing him, and in recent months, he has been frequently linked to a move to the Spanish capital.
Fernandez became Chelsea's most expensive signing when he moved from Benfica to the club in January 2023 for around €121m. After a slow start to life in London, he has gradually established himself as one of the top players in his position in the Premier League.
He has made 119 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and contributing 24 assists. The Argentine helped Enzo Maresca's side win the Conference League and Club World Cup last season, captaining the Blues on multiple occasions.
Chelsea, on the other hand, view Fernandez as a key component of the club's project. Furthermore, his contract runs until 2032, giving the Blues an advantage in any negotiations.
