It is no secret that Chelsea had been trying to complete two signings before the Club World Cup. Unfortunately, it looks like neither is going to get over the line, if at all, before the deadline. Contrary to reports in Italy, the Blues were not able to agree a transfer fee with AC Milan for Mike Maignan despite the Frenchman's clear desire to move to Stamford Bridge. It was the same case with Jamie Gittens and Borussia Dortmund as well.

The club might go in opposite directions in the next window though. It has been suggested that they are happy with the options in goal and might not try to sign Maignan this summer anymore. On the other hand, negotiations to bring in Gittens look set to continue.

It is not just about signings though. There are players set to leave as well. And in this case, Manchester City have shown the efficiency that Cheslea could not with their transfer dealings.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Marcus Bettinelli has signed his one-year deal as a new Manchester City goalkeeper. He is joining from Chelsea.

That is a pretty good view at the difference that exists between the two clubs right now. It was just yesterday that rumours broke about Manchester City's interest in Bettinelli and they seem to have gotten it done already.

On the other hand, the deals involving Maignan and Gittens have been dragging on for quite a few days now. Yet, Chelsea could not find a solution.

That is what Manchester City are great at. Despite winning so much in recent years, they are relentless and know how to get the job done. On the other hand, Chelsea seem to let things drag on and hesitate, which ends up in them missing out on signings on a regular basis.
