With the latter half of the summer transfer window underway, Chelsea are currently looking to part ways with the players they do not need. Fans already saw two first-team names, Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic, move on from the club. Now it seems like there could be plenty more who might be leaving.

Since the change in ownership Chelsea have shifted to a policy of bringing in talented youngsters instead of proven stars. The signing of Renato Veiga from Swiss side FC Basel was made under the same policy.

Although the Portuguese defender had made 18 appearances for Chelsea in the first half of the season, he opted to join Juventus on loan in the winter. But even after his return to Stamford Bridge, his stay could be short as he is expected to leave soon.

Earlier it was reported that Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Veiga. Now reports suggest that the Spanish giants have taken a major step towards a possible move for the defender.

Atletico Madrid submit bid for Chelsea defender Renato Veiga

According to L'Equipe, Atletico Madrid have already made two offers for Veiga. The last of those amounted to €35 million, including bonuses.

It is also rumoured that Veiga has already agreed to personal terms with Atletico Madrid. However, Chelsea are reportedly looking for an increased offer from the Spanish side following a solid season from the Portuguese defender.

Despite Veiga's lack of first-team chances for Chelsea, the 21-year-old defender has been quite effective whenever he was given the opportunity. This has raised questions amongst the fans on whether the Blues should even consider his exit, especially at a point when the club themselves are in need of a defender.

It is not hard to imagine a player like Veiga developing at a club like Atletico Madrid and his transfer value skyrocketing. So, Chelsea must be careful about their decision.
