The transfer market has been open for quite some time now and Chelsea have already brought in three players in the form of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro. However, the club are still in search of a reliable centre-back ahead of the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, recently Chelsea have also moved players the other way around. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke have joined the Blues' city rivals Arsenal. Djordje Petrovic and Mathis Amougou have joined Bournemouth and Strasbourg, respectively. Now it looks like another player is set to join this list soon. It was earlier reported that Renato Veiga is set to leave the club.

Now reports have suggested that a Spanish giant is interested in the player. Florian Plettenberg has recently posted on X, stating that Veiga is on the shortlist for Atletico Madrid.

Although there are more options, but Atletico are monitoring Veiga’s situation. The 21-year-old versatile defender could leave Chelsea if a suitable offer arrives. The transfer valuation is €30–35 million. Many enquiries have also been made and his contract runs until 2031.

Atletico Madrid monitoring Chelsea defender Renato Veiga

Veiga joined Chelsea from FC Basel just a year ago in 2024, for a fee of around £12 million. The 21-year-old defender appeared for the Blues in 18 matches in the first half of the season. Later, he was sent on loan to Juventus in the second half, where he nailed down a starting spot.

Veiga doesn’t appear to be part of Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s plans going forward. As a result, the club is looking to find the Portuguese international a new home.

The incoming departure of Veiga could help fund Chelsea’s pursuit of a new centre-back. That said, the Portuguese defender isn’t the only defender expected to leave either as Axel Disasi and possibly Trevoh Chalobah could be transferred to new clubs this summer as well. So, all things considered, it’s safe to say that the Blues will seemingly have a new look to their backline next season.
