The summer transfer window started with Chelsea bringing in one signing after another, with the club having secured the signatures of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and also Liam Delap, who was brought before the Club World Cup. However, the Blues have now shifted their focus to parting with underperforming players to make some space for the new and future arrivals, and also to abide by the financial rules.
In recent years, a number of Chelsea players have chosen to move to the Saudi Pro League following their time in the Premier League. This list includes players like N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy.
Now, another Chelsea player has attracted interest from Saudi clubs. But this time, the one in question is a promising youngster instead of a veteran in the latter portion of his career.
Ben Jacobs has recently stated that Alfie Gilchrist sis et to leave Chelsea this summer and multiple Championship clubs are interested. Saudi clubs have also made an approach with the defender viewed as a strong profile fit by the league officials.
Saudi clubs interested in Chelsea youngster Alfie Gilchrist who looks set to leave this summer
Gilchrist has come through Chelsea’s youth academy and was promoted to the first team in 2023. However, the 21-year-old has failed to make any significant impact to be considered a regular in an already star-studded Blues squad.
The English defender has appeared in only 17 matches for Chelsea and has scored just one goal. In the 2024/25 campaign, the youngster was sent on a season-long loan to Championship side Sheffield United, where he was a consistent starter when fit and available.
Gilchrist is one of the players fans would have hoped to be successful at Stamford Bridge. But as of now, he is expected to find a new club soon. Whether it’s a club from Saudi Arabia or Europe, he looks unlikely to stay.
