BlueCo purchased a majority stake in French club RC Strasbourg in 2023. Since its acquisition, business between the two clubs has become a common event. This summer, Chelsea have already moved five players to the Ligue 1 side, either on loan or permanently. And another one could be on the horizon.
Mike Penders, Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Paez moved to France on season-long loans, while Ishe Samuels-Smith and Mathis Amougou moved on a permanent basis. And recent reports suggest that another transfer between these two clubs may be in the works.
Genesis Antwi is regarded as one of Chelsea's most promising academy prospects. He has been with Chelsea since the age of 11, and made his first-team debut in March of this year.
The 18-year-old Sweden youth international has been a standout at the youth and developmental levels for Chelsea. He most recently assisted in their 3-1 win over Manchester City in Premier League 2.
Strasbourg in talks to sign highly-rated Chelsea defender
Antwi can play in a variety of roles but he excels as a right-back. That is a position where Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong feature in the first-team. Therefore, he may find it difficult to get into the Blues' senior team this season or in the future.
According to a post on X by The Chelsea Spot, RC Strasbourg are in talks with the Blues for Antwi. The player and his family already visited the training ground last week and discussions are set to continue.
The 18-year-old will want to gain as much first-team football as possible at this point in his career, and he has a better chance of getting playing time at Strasbourg than at Chelsea. Now, it remains to be seen if a move to the French Ligue 1 side ends up materialising or not.
