Alejandro Garnacho has failed to reach the heights expected since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Manchester United last summer.

The former Manchester United winger has been a big disappointment following his £40 million switch from Old Trafford.

He has managed to score just one Premier League goal all season and has become increasingly frustrating to watch on Chelsea's left hand side.

As a result of such a disappointing opening campaign, the Blues are already looking at alternative options and with the emergence of Estevao, there is real pressure on Garnacho to turn it around or face the axe.

And hoping to capitalise on the forward's situation, River Plate have reportedly approached the Blues and offered a deal that could benefit both clubs, as well as the player.

River Plate make Alejandro Garnacho enquiry

According to reports in South America, River Plate have suggested bringing Garnacho to Argentina next season on a one-year loan deal.

TyC Sports journalist Gonzalo Carol claims River Plate's manager Eduardo Coudet has personally made contact with Chelsea's number 49 to present an 'ambitious project' to him.

Interestingly, believed to like the proposal, Chelsea are considering letting Garnacho go and would let him move to South America in order to help raise his game.

It remains unknown how the 21-year-old feels about leaving the Premier League but with his reputation suffering from his dire form, it feels like a short loan could be just what he needs.

Argentina Primera Division loan could be risky for Garnacho

Although Garnacho represents Argentina at international level, he hasn't experienced their league first hand due to coming through Spain's youth system.

And the Primera Division is no joke. Even though it doesn't have the wealth of Europe, Argentina's top flight is notoriously tough, both physically and mentally.

Should all parties agree to the deal on offer, Garnacho would instantly become the side's biggest name player, and that comes with a pressure of it's own.

Just because he'd be moving from Europe's biggest league, the 21-year-old couldn't just expect to join River Plate and instantly tear things up.

Garnacho would have to work really hard to thrive, and worryingly, that's a mentality he has yet to really show; both at Manchester United and now at Chelsea.

During his first season in London, Garnacho, who earns £110,000-per week and has six years left on his deal, has scored four goals and registered four assists in 37 games in all competitions.
