Missing out on an international team call-up will hurt for many, especially when you've previously tasted international experience. As for Levi Colwill, his last England cap came in June 2025 against Senegal, just two months before an ACL tear put him out of action for almost eight months.
Many Chelsea players enjoyed successful international breaks with their countries, such as Estevao, Maxence Lacroix, Morgan Rogers, and Romeo Lavia, but maybe Colwill who had three weeks off was the one who gained the most from this break.
Before the international break got underway, Colwill came out after the disappointing loss to Brentford and said that those who weren't selected for the national sides must use this time "to become a better side" under Xabi Alonso.
Many Chelsea fans will probably agree that Colwill hasn't been at his best to begin the season, which is understandable after coming back from such a lengthy injury like an ACL tear. This break might do the Englishman some good, as he can get some rest and fully recover, as well as train with the coaches tactically to be better at playing in a back three formation, something that he hasn't been that used to so far in his career.
"Luckily, we’ve got a while now to try and improve. Hopefully, we will come out the other side flying, pick up our play, and become a better team."
Many people around the club, knew how valuable Colwill was to the Chelsea side before his unfortunate injury. Quickly after Alonso was appointed as Chelsea manager, he spoke on the role that he expects Colwill to have in his side ahead of the new season.
"I would say that having a proper pre-season has helped him in taking the right steps in the right moment, not trying to rush it too quick because of what he had last year,' said our manager.
‘Even last year, he finished playing in a good way. And now, after pre-season, we are expecting that he feels well and that he's confident and with the fitness to have him at the next level."
