Chelsea parted ways with Noni Madueke in the summer, and he was signed by London rivals Arsenal. At first, the transfer was a confusing one, but it was nothing out of the ordinary; Chelsea had used the Emirates Stadium as a dumping ground for many years.
However, after a few months, Noni Madueke really began to shine at Arsenal. He was proving a great asset for them, and the reduction in his minutes (playing behind Bukayo Saka) somehow made him hungrier.
Now, he has genuine shots at making the Arsenal first-team, and Mikel Arteta has been vindicated for making the decision to sign him.
Arsenal is vindicated for signing Noni Madueke from Chelsea
One stat which truly stands out is the number of corners that Noni Madueke is winning for Arsenal. Sky Sports released a pretty telling stat that Noni Madueke wins more corners per 90 minutes than any player in the Premier League.
And, look, Arsenal is memed for being 'Set Piece FC', but it's quite scary from a Chelsea perspective that a former Chelsea player is the one winning corners for them.
Chelsea comes up against Arsenal tonight in the Carabao Cup semifinal. The Blues trail by one goal, but away goals do not count in this competition. If Liam Rosenior's men can win by a goal, they stand a chance of making the final. A two goal advantage or more would send them to the final.
But, as eluded to already, it's not an easy task against Arsenal. The Gunners are the best team in England right now, and like it or lump it, they pose a serious threat from set pieces.
There is every likelihood that Noni Madueke will start for the home team tonight. Bukayo Saka is an injury doubt, but that aside, Mikel Arteta must be considering squad rotation just as much as Liam Rosenior.
If Madueke plays against Chelsea, he could pose a serious threat. Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, Arsenal has been much more strategic with signing players from Chelsea lately, and he is one that could harm Chelsea just as much as Kai Havertz did.
Obviously, Chelsea poses its own threat. Liam Rosenior may not have figured out his best defense yet, but the Blues are more than capable of going forward in their own right.
Tonight could certainly be a goal fest. Arsenal would settle for a draw, but Chelsea needs the win. Either way you look at it, it's going to be entertaining.
