In a unique transfer saga last summer, Victor Osimhen ended up going to Galatasaray on loan, rather than staying at Napoli, after he failed to land a permanent move somewhere. Chelsea were believed to be the closest to signing the Napoli striker but ultimately, his salary ended up being a stumbling block that could not be overcome. At least that is what reports back then suggested.
Osimhen had a great season with Galatasaray. He scored 37 goals in 41 appearances. But now, he again finds himself back in the same position. Without a future at Napoli and no clear destination either.
Plenty of clubs are believed to be monitoring Osimhen. But nobody has made a clear move to sign him from Napoli so far. There is a lot of time left this summer though and it could come as a surprise if he fails to land a move for the second consecutive year despite the lack of world-class strikers in the game.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are keeping tabs on Osimhen, while Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are all also interested in the Nigerian international. One key condition for the striker is playing in the Champions League.
Victor Osimhen decision hands Chelsea advantage over Man Utd
Of course, that condition hands Chelsea an advantage over clubs like Manchester United and AC Milan. The Blues booked their place in next season's Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League.
It is worth mentioning that Chelsea have already added a striker to their squad this summer. They have brought in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.
Of course, he is not a high-profile name. But that does not mean that the move could not work. He has a lot of similar traits to strikers like Diego Costa and Didier Drogba, who thrived in a Chelsea shirt while many others before and after them have failed.
