This summer's transfer window will be one of the most important for Chelsea. A lot of incomings and outgoings are expected.
Several players' futures are under scrutiny. Enzo Fernandez's comments on Real Madrid earlier in the year have sparked speculation he wants out.
Liam Delap is another who could go. The striker's move from Ipswich Town last summer has been a total failure. Just one league goal all season has put him in the firing line to be sold.
Incomings are expected too, though. After many windows of BlueCo bringing in young players with high potential, there has been a shift toward signing more experienced players with a better mentality.
The Blues are desperately lacking leaders but there is growing hope that one current player can step up.
Chelsea view Levi Colwill as future leader
Levi Colwill has missed virtually the entire campaign after suffering an ACL injury during pre-season.
The 23-year-old has been a big miss but his recent return to fitness has been a timely boost. And he definitely won't be leaving in the summer after journalist Matt Law revealed how the club feel about him.
Speaking on the London is Blue podcast, Law confirmed Chelsea's staff are predicting Colwill to develop into a future leader.
"I’ve spoken to people at the club and I think there is some hope on Levi around that [him becoming a leader].
Do you remember the back end of last season when they got over the line in the Champions League? Levi was huge in that run. Did he even score the clinching goal at Forest?”
Levi really stood up. And I’ve also got that image of him at the Club World Cup with the flag draped around his shoulders. And again, he had a very good Club World Cup.
He’s not going to be able to do it on his own. He’s been out a long time and he’s a relatively young man. But Levi, I know there’s hope that Levi will help on that score. And I genuinely believe that Levi from what I hear about him will help on that score."
High hopes for a player who already has five senior international caps to his name.
New centre-back must compliment Colwill
Colwill is nailed on to be one of the Blues' first choice centre-backs next season.
Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah are good rotation options, but neither have what it takes to start week in, week out.
So with a new centre-back likely to be the priority once the window opens, the Blues will need to find a profile of player who would work well alongside Colwill.
It is for this reason the Blues will be looking at right-sided — and probably right-footed — centre-backs either close to their prime or already in it.
